50% ABV with nuttiness and alcohol that cover a nice vanilla extract base. The palate continues the oak and alcohol theme, with a light sweet vanilla and wood spice. The finish is a bit hotter than the others and continues the oak and alcohol theme. Price was $30 before 2 awards at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition - now between $45 and $100 a bottle.

EVAN WILLIAMS BOTTLED-IN-BOND

50% ABV and Charcoal Filtered with vanilla and fresh cut oak saw dust on the nose, rich flavors on the palate including vanilla, toffee, cherry, and a touch of alcohol. The finish is so fast, you might miss it. A little hint of cherry and black pepper. Adding a couple drops of water does makes changes, but not significant. Price around $15-$17.

ELIJAH CRAIG SMALL BATCH

47% ABV (added this in to see how the same mashbill compares in this mid-priced offering). I get an earthy experience on the nose, sort of floral but then also baking spices to go with the vanilla and caramel. Nice mouthfeel with caramel and vanilla accented by a cherry jellybean sweetness. The finish is longer, slightly bitter but pleasant. Price around $27-$30
